The firm was chosen as the 2012 Canadian Specialty IP Firm of the Year and Canadian Patent Contentious Firm of the Year. The firm also received the Canadian Patent Case of the Year award for its success in the Federal Court of Appeal decision in Amazon.com, Inc. v. Commissioner of Patents, 2011 FCA 328. Amazon.com successfully was represented by Steven B. Garland and Colin B. Ingram of our Ottawa office. In addition, we are very proud of our partner, Michael D. Manson of our Vancouver office, who was chosen as the 2012 Canadian Outstanding IP Practitioner.

The awards were presented at MIP's 2012 North America Awards ceremony, held on March 27th, 2012, in Washington, DC. The ceremony recognizes excellence in the global IP industry and was attended by IP practitioners from across Canada and the United States. MIP has repeatedly ranked Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh as a top-tier practice in Canada across all areas of IP.
