Tailored IP solutions for emerging technologies
Noel's practice centres on the patenting, licensing and strategic protection of biotechnological, chemical, and mechanical inventions. With in-depth expertise in patent procurement and enforcement, he regularly provides sophisticated opinions on patent validity, infringement and freedom‑to‑operate.
His work includes drafting and negotiating IP-related commercial agreements, including licenses and technology transfer arrangements and advising clients on integrated IP portfolio management. Noel brings complementary experience in regulatory, trademark and copyright matters, helping clients navigate intersecting legal and business issues with clarity and foresight.
Where regulatory strategy meets recognized IP leadership
With significant experience across Canada’s regulatory landscape, Noel’s advisory work includes strategic guidance on data exclusivity, patent term extensions (CSPs), pricing compliance under the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB) and proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations (PMNOC).
He regularly supports innovators, particularly in the life sciences, by aligning patent strategy with commercialization pathways and regulatory timelines. His actionable advice accounts for both legal risk and competitive advantage.
Noel is widely recognized for his contributions to intellectual property education and thought leadership. He serves as Co‑Chair of the Intellectual Property Courses Committee, overseeing intensive summer IP programs jointly offered by McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC). He has delivered lectures for both U.S. and Canadian legal associations and has authored numerous articles on IP law and emerging technologies.
