Smart & Biggar team presents at the 2026 IPIC-McGill Intellectual Property Summer Program

Smart & Biggar is pleased to participate in the 2026 Intellectual Property Summer Program, hosted by McGill University and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) from July 6-23, 2026.

William Audet, Christie Bates, Noel Courage, Carmela De Luca, Meghan Dillon, Christine Genge and Kwan T. Loh will lead presentations and workshops on patents, trademarks and copyright, sharing their practical insights and legal expertise. We are especially proud to highlight two members in leadership roles this year: Noel Courage serving as Program Chair, and Christie Bates as Course Director for the Copyright Master Class.

Understanding Patents (July 6-10, 2026)

  • July 7: Christine Genge will present “Designs: An Overview”. Noel Courage will contribute to the “Patents and AI” breakout session. Carmela De Luca will speak in the session “Comparative overview of US and EP practice”.

Understanding Trademarks (July 13-17, 2026)

  • July 13: Kwan T. Loh will speak in a session titled “Trademark Applications: Filing Requirements and Special Types of Applications”, followed by the “Trademark Filing Strategies and Classification” workshop.
  • July 14: Meghan Dillon will present “Clearance Searches, Examiners’ Reports & Responses, Post-Advertisement Matters”, followed by the “Clearance Searches” workshop.
  • July 16: William Audet will lead the “Reporting Office Actions” workshop.

Copyright Master Class (July 20-23, 2026)

  • July 21: Christie Bates will present the session titled “Introduction to Key Aspects of Copyright”.
