Gurnoor Kaur Brar is a summer student in Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office. She is currently completing her Juris Doctor at Western University.
Gurnoor has a proven track record of academic excellence and leadership. During her legal studies, Gurnoor was awarded the MacKewn, Winder, Kirwin Entrance Scholarship in Law for outstanding academic performance and commitment to public service. She is also the Student Director of the Western IP & Innovation Legal Clinic, which provides pro bono legal information and early-stage commercialization services to academic clients, inventors, start-ups and entrepreneurs.
While completing her graduate degree, Gurnoor worked as a Laboratory Instructor and received the Richard Jarrell Excellence in Teaching at the Graduate Level Award. Her scientific expertise lies in bioinformatic analysis, computational statistics, and biomedical bench-top techniques with animal and cell models. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In 2022, Gurnoor was honoured with the prestigious Robert J. Tiffin Student Leadership Award.
As both a scientist and a law student, Gurnoor understands the transformative power of innovation and holds a deep appreciation for the inventor’s journey. She looks forward to contributing to cutting-edge IP work at Smart & Biggar and further honing her legal skills in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.
Prior to joining Smart & Biggar, Gurnoor was a risk management intern for a private equity firm in Toronto.
