Michael is an articling student in our Toronto office. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Western Ontario.
Michael was a highly lauded student during both his legal and biochemistry studies, receiving the Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt Award in Legal Research, Writing and Advocacy. This award is presented annually to the first-year student in the Faculty of Law who has attained the highest average in the Legal, Research, Writing and Advocacy course.
Michael was awarded the Darwin Hayward Award in Law for his excellence in Corporate Law and earned first place in the Legate Injury Lawyers Medical Malpractice Moot. He also received a Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master’s (NSERC) to support his MSc studies.
Michael chose to work in IP because he’s interested in the challenges presented by protecting innovation, especially in the life sciences where research and commercialization are becoming increasingly intertwined. He is excited about his time at Smart & Biggar because the firm is an industry leader that promotes a work environment cultivating personal growth and professional success.
