A practical approach to trademark and copyright protection and enforcement
William’s practice focuses on trademark and copyright protection, with an emphasis on enforcement and anti-counterfeiting. He oversees intellectual property litigation, brand enforcement and the investigation and resolution of counterfeiting and infringement matters, while also advising on clearance, prosecution, trademark oppositions, section 45 non-use cancellations, availability opinions and licensing, helping clients safeguard their intellectual property and maintain the strength of their brands in both Canada and global markets. He also advises on Québec French language issues.
Supporting Canadian and global brands in trademark matters
William works closely with Canadian and international brands across a wide range of industries, including luxury goods & apparel, professional sports, health and beauty, entertainment, pharmaceuticals and medical devices and financial services.
He has represented clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Superior Court of Québec and the Trademarks Opposition Board and has authored and co-authored several intellectual property articles. His publications include a co-authored intellectual property textbook titled Précis de propriété Intellectuelle.
William is recognized for his work in World Trademark Review 1000 and Mondaq Thought Leadership Awards
