Lauren Marval is an articling student at Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office. She earned her Juris Doctorate at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Honours Chemistry with a Minor in Biology from Saint Mary’s University.
Lauren returns to Smart & Biggar with several years of intellectual property experience, including working at a boutique IP and technology law firm and in-house at a global children’s entertainment company. Her experience includes patent prosecution, patent drafting, prior-art searching, trademark filings, anti-counterfeiting, and brand-protection strategies.
During law school, Lauren received an honours distinction in Dalhousie’s compulsory second-year moot and was selected as a member of the Smith Shield Moot team. While at Saint Mary’s University, she received the Kendon Matheson Memorial Award for community involvement and extracurricular contributions and was named Junior of the Year.
She looks forward to continuing to learn from Smart & Biggar’s practitioners and developing her skills across a broad range of intellectual property matters.
