Smart & Biggar promotes ten IP practitioners, three principal promotions
Smart & Biggar is proud to announce ten promotions for 2025, including the promotions of Dominique Lambert, Artemis Lai and Victoria Townsend to principal. The promotions are effective on July 1, 2025.
Dominique Lambert holds a master’s degree in organic chemistry and has helped clients protect their IP for over 20 years. Based in Montréal, she steps into the role of principal in Smart & Biggar’s Life Sciences team.
Dominique said, “My career path is certainly unconventional. With constant hard work and dedication, and the support of awesome colleagues, I’ve proudly reached that point in my career. I’m looking forward to continuing to contribute to the success and growth of the firm!”
Artemis Lai is a lawyer, patent and trademark agent working in Smart & Biggar’s EICT team. She first joined Smart & Biggar as an articling student in 2014 and is based in Vancouver.
Artemis said, “I am honoured to be promoted from senior associate to principal at Smart & Biggar. This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of my mentors, assistants and colleagues. I look forward to continuing to deliver exceptional value to, and meeting the ever-evolving needs of, our clients in this new role.”
Victoria Townsend is a patent agent based in Toronto with over 20 years of experience, and steps into the role of principal in Smart & Biggar’s EICT team.
Victoria said, “From a trainee at a patent & trademark agency in Ottawa fresh out of engineering, to 17 years at an IP boutique in Toronto, to principal in a national IP firm – it has been quite the journey! I am proud of this recognition and grateful to my colleagues (both old and new!) for their support and guidance along the way. I look forward to continuing on as part of the talented team at Smart & Biggar.”
In addition to three principal promotions, seven promotions to senior associate have been made in Smart & Biggar’s Life Sciences, EICT, and IP Litigation and Legal teams.
Smart & Biggar Managing Director, Matthew Zischka, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Dominique, Artemis and Victoria as principals of Smart & Biggar, and to see seven of our colleagues promoted to senior associate. These promotions are a recognition of the consistent hard work and high-quality service to our clients these individuals have demonstrated, and I congratulate each one of them for their success.”
