Smart & Biggar welcomes Natalie Galley as a new associate in Montreal
Smart & Biggar, Canada’s leading firm for intellectual property law and agency services, is pleased to share that Natalie Galley has joined our Montreal patent practice as a new associate.
Highly qualified U.S. patent lawyer with U.S.-Canada cross-border experience
With a background and experience working with clients in mechanical, aerospace and biomedical engineering, Natalie brings an inimitable depth and breadth of technical expertise to her practice. She also provides clients with unique cross-border IP expertise having practiced in the U.S. for many years.
Working closely with innovators, Natalie employs an analytical approach to understanding their businesses goals and offers strategic counsel to create, protect and leverage IP assets to meet their commercial objectives. As an engineer and U.S. patent attorney, she applies an intuitive lens to new technologies, can spot opportunities and communicate effectively with her clients, whether in the technical language of inventions or to explain and navigate the complicated legalese and minutia of patent law.
Ivy league expertise benefits clients seeking strategies to protect innovation
Natalie received her law degree from Harvard Law School, after completing a PhD at Cornell University Sibley School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and earning a Master of Applied Science degree at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies.
She works with individual inventors and international corporations in the technology sector. Her practice involves drafting patent applications for medical devices, robotics, control systems, clean technologies, printing and software; performing due diligence studies by examining and analyzing the strength of patent portfolios of target companies, and conducting freedom to operate studies by investigating the patent landscape for a proposed product, and provide opinions regarding risk in bringing the proposed product to market.
Prior to joining Smart & Biggar, Natalie practiced in intellectual property law at a reputable law firm in Boston, Massachusetts where she prosecuted patents, performed technical and legal analysis of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) actions, planned prosecution strategies and prepared responses to USPTO communications.
Natalie is a U.S. patent attorney licensed to practice before the USPTO. She is fluent in both French and English.
