Smart & Biggar is pleased to welcome four new associates to our Toronto and Ottawa offices. Jennifer Boothby, Rachel Harrison, Sarah McLaughlin and Benjamin Todd rejoin the firm following their terms as articling students. They will work alongside Canada’s IP leaders to support clients in safeguarding their innovations and addressing key IP challenges.

Jennifer Boothby – Associate, Trademarks, Toronto 

Jennifer is a trademark lawyer committed to helping clients build, protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. Her practice spans trademark prosecution and copyright law, with a growing emphasis on brand protection for clients across a wide range of industries.

Rachel Harrison – Associate, Patents: EICT, Ottawa

With a background in software development, Rachel has a strong interest in emerging technologies. Her practice focuses on patent prosecution, where she is committed to supporting clients in protecting technical innovations across a range of industries, particularly in the software sector and in technologies involving artificial intelligence.

Sarah McLaughlin – Associate, Patents: Life Sciences and Chem/Bio, Toronto

With a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular medicine and hands-on research experience, Sarah’s practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution in life sciences. She leverages scientific expertise for the legal protection of complex innovations.

Benjamin Todd – Associate, Patents: EICT, Toronto

With a mechanical engineering background and experience in the aerospace industry, Ben brings valuable technical insight to his patent practice. He is dedicated to helping innovators protect and grow their intellectual property through strategic patent prosecution.
