Canada’s Intellectual Property Firm

Smart & Biggar wins three awards from LMG Life Sciences, including “Canadian Firm of the Year” for both contentious and non-contentious patents

Smart & Biggar is honoured to have received two awards for Canadian Patent Firm of the Year, one each for our contentious and non-contentious work at the 2018 LMG Life Sciences Awards, held at Essex House in New York City on September 12, 2018.

In addition, partner Gunars Gaikis was awarded an individual award for Canadian Patent Litigation Attorney of the Year.

Well regarded by clients and peers alike, Gunars is described as a “seasoned gladiator”, and praised as “a skilled fighter and lifecycle strategist for original drugs companies”, a “wonderful litigator", “one of the best patent litigators since the industry began”, an “IP star” and a “life sciences star.”

Partner Daphne Lainson was also short-listed for Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Attorney of the Year.

Partners Gunars Gaikis and David Schwartz were in attendance to represent Smart & Biggar.

The LMG Life Sciences Awards recognizes the year’s top firms and legal professionals operating in the life science market. The awards are based on research conducted for the 2018 edition of LMG Life Sciences. The awards recognizing achievements in intellectual property will be featured in a special section of LMG's October edition of Managing IP Magazine.
