In fond memory of Brian Isaac

We are profoundly saddened by the sudden and untimely death of our partner, colleague and friend, Brian Isaac, on August 29, 2015. Known for his big voice, warm smile, kindness and generosity, Brian touched many lives personally and professionally.

Brian was widely recognized as one of Canada’s leading IP lawyers, and received numerous well-deserved accolades and honours, including from leading international and national publications such as Managing Intellectual Property, World Trademark Review, Best Lawyers and Lexpert.

Brian was a rare breed in the IP field. He was a true “renaissance man” whose practice spanned from successfully handling precedent-setting anti-counterfeiting, trademark, copyright and patent litigation cases to being valued counsel for many of the world’s leading companies. From appellate litigation to drafting patent applications, Brian did it all, and he did it extremely well.

Brian was also a tireless advocate for the strengthening of Canada’s anti-counterfeiting laws. In his role as Chair of Canada’s Anti-Counterfeiting Network, as well as an active member of numerous international anti-counterfeiting committees and organizations, Brian spearheaded significant legislative changes for which he will long be remembered.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Brian’s wife and children, and to all of his family and friends, during this difficult time.

Brian will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
