Zaid Jawed

Articling Student

Zaid Jawed is an Articling student in Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office. He recently earned his J.D. from Queen’s University.

Zaid comes to Smart & Biggar with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a B.Sc. in Astrophysics, both from the University of Calgary. During his undergraduate studies he received a CISSA Undergraduate Award for Academic Merit (2007, 2008), an Advanced Placement Scholar Award (2006), the Louise McKinney Academic Excellence Scholarship (2012), and the Jason Lang Scholarship for Academic Excellence (2011, 2012). 

During his studies, Zaid participated with the Pro Bono Students Society (PBSC) Akwesasne Community Project and the PBSC Family Brochure Project. From 2018-2020, he also worked with the Queen’s Law Communications Team, working directly with the Director of Marketing at the Queens Faculty of Law. Prior to entering law School, Zaid was a field engineer for Wood Group-Vibration, Dynamics and Noise (VDN) in Calgary. 

Zaid is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

Before articling at Smart & Biggar, Zaid was a summer law student in Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office in 2021.
