Outside of Canada, Oliver has practiced before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office.

Oliver has a track record of securing patent grants in difficult and complex cases. He has successfully drafted patent applications in a wide range of technologies, including telecommunications, electronic devices, processor architecture, imaging systems (including MRI and laser cameras), flight control systems, power generation, protective garments for military and emergency service personnel, solar energy capture and conversion systems, and anti-counterfeiting and security devices.

In addition to counselling Canadian innovators and large multinational companies, Oliver has supported Canadian universities and government research organizations. He has also assisted large corporate clients based in the United States, Korea and Japan with their Canadian patent procurement needs.
