Hailey is an articling student in our Toronto office. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto.
During her legal studies, Hailey received a Course Award in Family Law with a ‘Unique Best Student’ designation and was awarded the J. W. McConnell Scholarship for academic merit. She consistently excelled academically, earning a place on the Dean’s Honour List throughout her Bachelor of Engineering program and receiving both the Robert D. Harris Memorial Scholarship and the Faculty of Engineering Award. Additionally, she was recognized with an Undergraduate Student Research Award for her work in computational modelling research in chemical engineering.
Before law school, Hailey completed a research project on Density Functional Theory (DFT) modelling of clathrate hydrates as part of the Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering program. For her final year design project, she designed a sulfonation plant for an annual surfactant production of 100,000 tonnes. This research experience strengthened her technical background and equipped her to effectively navigate complex issues involving science and technology.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Hailey tutors Japanese students of all ages and proficiency levels in English through Eigox. She also contributed as a student researcher to the Venezuela Accountability Project under the International Human Rights Program at the University of Toronto. Additionally, Hailey served as an undergraduate mentor at McGill University’s Tomlinson Project, supporting students in organic chemistry and instrumentation courses.
Hailey was drawn to intellectual property law as it enables her to blend her passion for law with her engineering background to safeguard inventive ideas. She looks forward to articling at Smart & Biggar, where she can learn from the firm’s extensive expertise and valuable mentorship.
