Trademark law strategy and counsel
Erica Gotfrit is an associate based in Ottawa. In her trademark focused practice, Erica counsels clients throughout the trademark lifecycle. She regularly performs trademark clearance searches and provides availability opinions, prepares and files trademark applications and prosecutes trademark applications before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
She works with companies, from start-ups to multinational corporations, across industry areas. By understanding client needs, she assists in developing sound trademark portfolios that align with objectives and safeguard against competitors.
Erica completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa. During her legal studies she worked as a summer student at the Standards Council of Canada in the Strategy and Stakeholder Engagement Branch, where she contributed to several policy papers submitted to internal trade representatives negotiating the modernization of the Agreement on Internal Trade.
Erica’s academic background is in health and life sciences. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a research assistant in the Atherogenomics Laboratory at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in the field of functional genomics, studying primarily coronary artery disease and obesity.
