Smart & Biggar continues to grow Montreal practice with three new associates

Smart & Biggar is pleased to welcome Stéphanie Girard, Maria Gonzalez and Bruno Roy to our team in Montreal.

As our practice continues to grow in response to the expanding needs of our clients, Stephanie, Maria and Bruno will help in supporting our clients with their IP expertise and technical skills.

Professional focus on IP meets personal passion

Stéphanie Girard has built a legal career focused on protecting the intellectual property of creators and business people, alike. As a lawyer, trademark agent and copyright specialist, Stephanie is a valuable resource through her ability to listen to clients’ needs, understand their business, know their competition and find the best possible solution to leverage the potential of their brands.

Mechanical engineer with a background in telecommunication and medical technology

In her role as technical consultant, Maria Gonzalez merges her specialized skills as a mechanical engineer with the legal aspect of assessing the patentability of an invention. Maria’s experience also extends to the field of biomedicine. Recently she collaborated with the Montreal General Hospital for the development of a new laparoscope in order to facilitate minimal invasive surgery. Maria is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

A depth of computer science expertise applied to creating IP solutions

Bruno Roy is a technical consultant who merges his interests in computer sciences, computer graphics and its applications through machine learning techniques with technical skills gained from a PhD in Computer Science. He applies his knowledge to legal and commercial situations to create IP solutions for his clients. Bruno is currently completing a PhD in Computer Science from Université de Montréal, and holds a Master of Information Technology Engineering and Bachelor of Information Technology Engineering from ETS in Montréal.

We are pleased to extend our congratulations and welcome each of them to the firm.
