Smart & Biggar hosts 2018 AIPLA ‘Women in IP’ Global Networking events across three Canadian cities
On April 19th, Smart & Biggar proudly hosted the 2018 AIPLA Women in IP Global Networking events in Toronto, Calgary and Montreal. These events took place as part of a series of 59 events in cities around the world, with the common goal of inspiring and empowering women in IP. By supporting women in IP Smart & Biggar recognizes the tremendous contributions and achievements of women in the innovation, creative, science, math, business and technology spheres.
Each event, unique to its host city, offered local women in IP a chance to connect and form relationships. Through these shared experiences women in IP are building opportunities together and empowering each other to reach their full potential as leaders in innovation.
Toronto, Batch Brewery:
Hosted by Smart & Biggar partner Urszula Wojtyra and associate Tamara O’Connell, the Toronto event featured an interactive panel discussion, Moderated by Smart & Biggar partner and Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer, Keltie Sim Luft. Women business leaders discussed the joys and challenges of navigating traditionally male dominated industries, the roles of mentors and sponsors and the importance of ‘showing up’. The panel was followed by networking and sampling of various culinary delights, paired with wines and house brewed beers from Batch.
Calgary, Teatro:
Smart & Biggar partner Christine Genge, with associates Laura Easton and Artemis Lai, hosted women from IP and law for an evening of networking, and cocktails followed by a dinner in the Opera Room at Teatro. The event featured a short update by IPIC President Grant W. Lynds, with highlights from IPIC’s annual roadshow. Attendees sat down to a three-course dinner to engage in lively discussion, connecting personally and professionally.
Montreal, Ateliers & Saveurs:
Smart & Biggar partners Brigide Mattar and Ekaterina Tsimberis, along with associates Jyoti Chakraborty and Camille Lachance Gaboury and articling student Marie-Christine Bernier, hosted an exclusive evening of networking with professionals from various backgrounds, including branding, finance, science and innovation. Guests enjoyed cocktails and tapas at Montreal’s Ateliers & Saveurs, where Mixologists’ guided the group through the creation of seasonal cocktails. The theme of the event centered on the important role a network can play in business success. Attendees were encouraged to embrace and celebrate their connections and expand network growth together.
