Canada’s Intellectual Property Firm

Smart & Biggar team members gather for and speak at the IPIC Annual Conference

The Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) will host its 93rd Annual Conference in Ottawa from September 25-27th, 2019.

The theme of this year’s conference is “IP Beyond Borders: Canada Coming of Age in a Global Economy”.  Montreal partner, Ekaterina Tsimberis, will speak at the conference, participating in a global panel discussion titled “Design Rights, Copyright and Trade Dress – Best Strategies for Canadian Businesses to protect product designs globally”. Joined by colleagues from the US and Europe, Ekaterina will offer advice on how clients can best use industrial design, copyright, trademark and unfair competition laws in Canada to protect their product designs.

Ekaterina is a Fellow of IPIC, a past member of the Litigation Committee and she held in 2019 the role of Director of the IPIC-McGill Understanding Trademarks Course in Montreal.  As Director, Ekaterina worked tirelessly at updating all the course materials in the face of the recent widespread amendments to the Trademarks Act in June 2019.

Joining Ekaterina in attending the IPIC conference this year are partner, Daniel Davies and associates, Bryce Dorin, Stephanie Girard and Allison Goldman. Please be sure to reach out to Ekaterina, Daniel, Bryce, Stephanie or Allison during the conference.

IPIC’s Annual Meeting is an opportunity for members of the Intellectual Property community to learn about exciting developments in IP, to earn annual CPD and CLE credits, and to network with colleagues and fellow practitioners.
