Lawyer and patent agent with diverse technical expertise 

With diverse academic research and legal experience, Artemis counsels clients on patent procurement in a variety of fields, with a focus on electrical and computer-based technologies, software tools for biotechnology, and bioinformatics.

Prior to joining Smart & Biggar, Artemis gained extensive experience in bioinformatics and other software tools for analysis of gene and protein expression levels while working at the Centre for High-Throughput Technology at the University British Columbia. She was also responsible for strategic management of patent and trademark portfolios at Zymeworks Inc., where she gained an in-depth understanding of the challenges and constraints faced by in-house legal teams.

During her studies at the University of British Columbia, Artemis worked as a research assistant in several academic labs in fields including brain research, wine research and bioinformatics.

Trademark procurement and contractual expertise with an international perspective

Artemis is also knowledgeable in trademark procurement and is particularly experienced with assisting clients in clearing, procuring and protecting Canadian trademarks which include foreign language and other design components. She regularly advises both domestic and international clients on contractual considerations associated with the development, commercialization, licensing and transfer of intellectual property assets.
