Yoon Kang, Keltie Sim Luft and Ekaterina Tsimberis recognized as top female legal practitioners by Expert Guides

Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh is pleased to announce that three of our lawyers have been recognized as top female legal practitioners in the areas of patents and trademarks in the 2014 edition of Expert Guides: Women in Business Law.

Yoon Kang, a partner in our office, has been recognized as a top female legal practitioner in the area of patents. Yoon’s practice has focused on patent litigation and prosecution for over 15 years. She is responsible for leading the Life Science practice in the firm’s office. She advises global pharmaceutical innovators and research institutions on all aspects of patent rights. In addition, Yoon plays a leading role in the firm’s life sciences litigation practice. Yoon has significant experience in representing pharmaceutical clients in litigation matters including under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations before the Federal Court of Canada.

Keltie Sim Luft, a partner in our office, has been recognized as a top female legal practitioner in the area of trademarks. Keltie’s practice has focussed on the domestic and international clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, acquisition and licensing of trademarks for over 30 years. Her superior range of depth and experience covers all aspects of the trademark procurement process, including: providing availability and infringement opinions; filing and prosecuting applications; handling trademark oppositions, cancellation and enforcement matters; managing portfolios; and drafting and reviewing licensing, co-existence, joint venture and settlement agreements. Keltie has acted on behalf of clients based in and internationally, operating within a vast array of industries.

Ekaterina Tsimberis, an associate in our office, has been recognized as a top female legal practitioner in the area of trademarks. Ekaterina calls on over a decade of experience to assist clients faced with litigation related to trademark infringement, copyright infringement and passing-off proceedings before the Federal Court of Canada. Ekaterina acts on behalf of local and foreign clients before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office to secure trademark registrations, oppose applications, and strike out registrations. She regularly provides registrability and availability opinions to clients looking to select new trademarks or to expand the range of products and services covered by existing trademarks. Ekaterina also manages extensive trademark portfolios and provides strategic counselling to assist clients with identifying, building and defending their most important intellectual property assets. In addition to obtaining trademark protection in , Ekaterina works to obtain trademark registrations abroad for clients through the firm's vast network of foreign correspondents.
