Smart & Biggar honoured as the Canadian Patent Contentious Firm of the Year and Gunars Gaikis named Canadian Patent Litigation Attorney of the Year by LMG Life Sciences

Smart & Biggar is pleased to announce that the firm has been honoured as the Canadian Patent Contentious Firm of the Year by LMG Life Sciences. In addition, Gunars Gaikis, a Partner in our Toronto office, has been named Canadian Patent Litigation Attorney of the Year. The announcement was made at the third annual LMG Life Sciences Awards ceremony held on September 16, 2015 at Essex House in New York City.

The firm also received the Canadian IP Contentious Impact Case of the Year award for our work on the AstraZeneca Apo-Omeprazole patent litigation. AstraZeneca was represented by a trial team comprised of Gunars Gaikis, Nancy Pei, Mark Biernacki, Lynn Ing and Urszula Wojtyra.

The LMG Life Sciences Awards recognize the leading attorneys, firms and in-house counsel teams that have played a significant role in the life sciences industry over the past year. The award categories are linear to the practice areas associated with this year’s edition of LMG Life Sciences.
