Last fall, Canada introduced new Patent Rules and associated amendments to its Patent Act that came into force on October 30, 2019. The new provisions were the most significant amendments to Canadian patent law in decades, and are largely geared to implementing the Patent Law Treaty in Canada. These recent amendments are in addition to amendments Canada introduced to the Patent Act late in 2018 and in early 2019, related to implementing aspects of Canada’s National IP Strategy.
To help ease the transition, we have compiled a series of articles and resources that summarize the more significant changes in Canadian patent practice and procedure that are now in effect. Also, we are hosting a special webinar in early November together with Lexology to cover key points of the current law now in force.
