Smart & Biggar Principal Noel Courage recently discussed licensing trends with Lexpert, noting that start-ups and academic institutions remain key innovation sources in the pharma and biopharmaceutical industries.
Noel was quoted as saying, “some relatively small Canadian specialty companies can make a meal out of licensing IP rights.”
Principal Melanie Szweras was also quoted as part of the article, which focused on a broad overview of trends in the health sciences. She noted a few key privacy concerns surrounding the use of AI in the health sector, including the fact that someone’s “highly sensitive” health information could be improperly disclosed or misused, and whether data used in the health and life sciences sector has been properly anonymized.
