Patents, intellectual property strategy, and agreements

Ainslie is an intellectual property lawyer and a registered patent agent before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). She helps clients protect innovations in biologics, medical diagnostics, biotechnology, plants and plant technology, food and pharmaceuticals.

Ainslie has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the life sciences. She manages national and international patent portfolios and advises clients on patentability, validity, infringement and freedom‑to‑operate issues. 

Her legal experience spans drafting and negotiating intellectual property agreements, including patent licenses and research services agreements. In addition, Ainslie offers strategic guidance on plant variety rights and related licensing and prepares and files plant breeders’ rights applications. 

Ainslie works with a diverse client base, including universities, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and multinational corporations. She takes a tailored approach, investing time to understand each client’s technology and commercial objectives to develop effective, business-aligned IP strategies. 

Ainslie is an Instructor for the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) Patent Agent Training Course: Infringement & Validity.
