If you wish to obtain a new .co top level domain name, it is important to act quickly.
A new top level domain (TLD) name will soon become available. The new TLD is .co, which was originally the country code domain name for Colombia. As of April 26, entities from anywhere in the world may begin to obtain .co?TLDs. Because "co" is widely used as an abbreviation of "company," many expect this new TLD to become popular very quickly.
The new TLD will be available in three phases.
In the first phase, to reduce the widespread practice of cybersquatting, a "Sunrise Period" is available between April 26 to June 10. Anyone who owned a registered trademark prior to July 30, 2008, can apply for the .co TLD during the Sunrise Period. Accordingly, anyone who owned a trademark registration prior to July 30, 2008 and wants to ensure that no one else acquires a .co domain name identical to the registered mark should apply for their .co TLD prior to June 10, 2010. (In the event that more than a single entity seeks to register a particular domain name during the Sunrise Period, the domain name will be awarded through an auction.)
The second phase, called the "Landrush" phase, extends from June 21 to July 13. In the Landrush phase, anyone can apply for a domain name. However, domain names will not be granted on a first-come first-served basis. Rather, where more than a single entity requests a particular domain name, an auction will be held.
In the third and final phase, which begins July 20, domain names will be available on a first-come first-served basis.
If you want a .co TLD, it is important to act quickly.
