Smart & Biggar receives four MIP North America Awards, including “IP Boutique Firm of the Year”
Smart & Biggar is proud to take home awards in four categories at the Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) North America Awards. Entering the awards with seven shortlisted nominations, Smart & Biggar maintained its position as a market leader by being presented with the awards for “IP Boutique Firm of the Year” and “Canadian Trademark Contentious Firm of the Year”.
The firm was also awarded “Canadian Impact Case of the Year” for our work on Bell Media v John Doe 1 dba GoldTV.biz, an important victory for copyright owners as the first site-blocking Order to be issued by a Canadian Court. The Plaintiffs were successfully represented by François Guay, Guillaume Lavoie Ste-Marie and Olivier Jean-Lévesque of Smart & Biggar’s Montreal office. We previously reported on the victory here.
Additionally, Toronto managing partner Mark Evans was named winner of the “Outstanding Practitioner of the Year – Trademark” award. Mark is a seasoned trademark lawyer and highly respected litigator with significant experience in all aspects of trademark law. Mark has been honoured as Canada's "Trademark Litigator of the Year" in 2014 and 2015 by Benchmark Canada. He is consistently recognized by a wide range of leading Canadian and international publications, including the Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Global, and Best Lawyers.
