Canada’s Intellectual Property Firm

Smart & Biggar hosts a workshop to help Victoria inventors protect their hardware innovations

Matthew R. Leaper On Thursday, April 11th, Smart & Biggar will host “Protecting Hardware Innovations” at the Victoria Innovation, Advanced Technology and Entrepreneurship Council (VIATEC). Vancouver Associate and US Patent Agent, Matthew Leaper, will lead the session and answer the most pressing, IP related questions for Victoria’s hardware innovators:

  • Why obtain intellectual property rights?
  • What intellectual property rights may I obtain?
  • How do I efficiently obtain those rights?
  • How can I use the rights to generate business value?

For many hardware-based product developers, the effective use of intellectual property rights – such as copyrights, designs, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets – may be critical to introducing new products and building market share in a profitable manner. This workshop is designed to guide participants through processes for obtaining IP rights in Canada and around the world, and provide strategic insights for utilizing those rights to create business value.

“Protecting Hardware Innovations” is held in partnership with VIATEC and Victoria Hardware Start-ups.
