Smart & Biggar’s Marketing and Advertising experts share legal insights with Ad Standards Canada
On April 9th, Smart & Biggar, in partnership with Ad Standards Canada, hosted ‘Legal Topics in Advertising’ at the firm’s Toronto office. Legal experts from Smart & Biggar’s Marketing and Advertising practice group offered timely and relevant information for industry practitioners.
Partner, Alice Tseng; Counsel, Daniel Anthony; and Senior Associates, Jamie-Lynn Kraft and Jennifer Ponton, provided insights on the current and changing state of Canadian trademark, marketing and advertising law, including:
- Intellectual Property Best Practices in Advertising & Marketing
- The Changing Landscape for Brand Protection in Canada: Upcoming Changes to the Trademarks Act
- Navigating Comparative Advertising and Compatibility Claims
- Misleading Advertising: Defining the Boundaries
Their presentations encouraged attendees to consider their intellectual property best practices, upcoming changes to Canadian trademark law that will impact on their brand protection strategy, and the risks and pay-offs of comparative and misleading advertising, among other things.
Due to popular demand, both a breakfast and a lunch session were held, with marketing, advertising and legal professionals in attendance.
