Brigide Mattar interviewed on patent protection strategy by PLAN magazine for the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
Principal Brigide Mattar recently shared her thoughts on developing an effective strategy for patent protection in product design and engineering in an interview for PLAN magazine.
Brigide discusses a variety of themes including managing patent risks, confidentiality, reverse engineering, patents in the context of technical collaborations and developing and managing a strategic patent portfolio.
On reverse engineering, Brigide notes “reverse-engineering processes are becoming more and more sophisticated and work even when it comes to complex technologies.” Once a product enters the public domain, the possibility for a third party to reverse engineer that product becomes a reality. Without effective IP/patent protection, little can usually be done to stop that third party from launching a similar competing product.
