Smart & Biggar co-hosts webinar with ACC Ontario: “What every in-house counsel needs to know about Intellectual Property law”

On Wednesday, May 27, Smart & Biggar, in partnership with ACC Ontario will host the webinar “What every in-house counsel needs to know about Intellectual Property law” to discuss the ins and outs of Intellectual Property law with Ontario in-house counsel. The discussion will be moderated by Smart & Biggar partner Philip Lapin and feature speakers Daniel Anthony and Lionel Fishman from Smart & Biggar, together with Andrea Pasztor of Canada Post.

Attending ACC members will explore common misunderstandings about IP among in-house counsel, including:

  • “Copyrights, patents, trademarks and trade secrets are all kind of the same thing”;
  • “You can just make up the IP stuff up as you go”;
  • “IP is the marketing department’s problem”; and
  • “IP law never changes, so your book from 1998 is a great reference”

The webinar will also cover IP basics and delve into recent changes in Canadian IP law to help in-house counsel build an IP strategy for trademarks and patents and avoid common mistakes and pitfalls.
