Namya Mehan is a summer student at Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office.  

She is a JD candidate at the University of Western Ontario and holds a degree in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from McMaster University.  

Namya is a student member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, STEP Canada, and the Canada Technology Law Association. 

Prior to her legal studies, Namya was a Patent Examiner in training at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, gaining experience applying Canadian IP law and international treaty standards while learning to review and analyze patent applications in electrical engineering, biotechnology and software. 

Namya is excited to join Smart & Biggar because the firm’s exclusive focus on intellectual property offers meaningful exposure across a wide range of IP matters and an excellent opportunity to strengthen her practical legal skills while learning from leading practitioners in the field.
