IP enforcement supports commercial solutions
Etienne devotes his time and energy to the details of complex intellectual property issues. Working with clients in a wide range of sectors – including motion picture and broadcast, restaurants and hospitality, and sporting goods – he is informed by research and a through understanding of his clients’ industries and market landscapes to consider commercial solutions to meet their business needs.
Etienne’s litigation practice focuses on copyright, patent and trademark protection. He regularly drafts written arguments and presentations of motions before the courts and engages with local, national and international clients.
In 2020 he earned his Master of Law at the University of Montreal, where he also completed a certificate of Law in 2015 and a Bachelor of Law in 2018. During his studies, Etienne participated in the Davies’ 2017 Corporate/Securities Law Moot, recognized as the leading event of its kind in Canada and volunteered for the legal clinic of the Young Bar of Montreal and for the Pro Bono Canada program at the University of Montreal.
Prior to joining Smart & Biggar, Etienne spent time at a tax and corporate law firm and at a corporate law litigation boutique. He was also a research assistant for the Chaire L.R. Wilson School in Information Technology and E-Commerce Law.
