Smart & Biggar partner Daphne Lainson featured in the ‘Top 250 Women in IP’ by MIP IP Stars 2022

Smart & Biggar is pleased to announce that Daphne Lainson, partner and chair of the firm, has been recognized in the ‘Top 250 Women in IP’ by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), as part of IP Stars 2022.

This special publication highlights the top 250 women in IP who have demonstrated leadership in the field of IP and delivered exceptional results for their clients. Practitioners are selected from MIP’s general IP Stars list for 2022 from more than 200 firms, over 30 jurisdictions.

Daphne has close to 25 years of experience as a lawyer and patent agent and is a trusted counsellor to clients seeking to navigate the complex life sciences patent-regulatory landscape. Within Smart & Biggar, she plays a key leadership role as chair of the firm, as practice leader of the firm’s chemical and life sciences patent practice and in client relations management, particularly in key industrial markets, such as the U.S., Japan and Germany.

Daphne has previously been hailed for her outstanding expertise in life sciences and as a leading woman in IP. She was recognized in the inaugural edition of the WIPR Influential Women in IP, where she was listed as one of 80 international female leaders in intellectual property law, as ‘Biotechnology Lawyer of the Year’ by Best Lawyers and as ‘Patent Strategy Practitioner of the Year’ by LMG Life Sciences. She has also been featured as an ‘IP Star’ by Managing Intellectual Property, in IAM Patents as a ‘Global Patent Leader’ and ‘Leading IP Strategist’, as a ‘World IP Review Leader’ in IP, in Chamber’s Global and Canadian editions as a ‘Leading Lawyer in IP’ and as a Lexpert® ranked lawyer for IP and Biotechnology. Daphne is also actively involved in key industry associations including the AIPLA and was recognized with the President’s Award for Outstanding Service.

The Top 250 Women in IP recognizes female practitioners in private practice who have performed exceptionally for their clients and firms in the past year. This list is dedicated to accomplished female IP practitioners from across the globe and is based on research conducted over a six-month period by an experienced team of research analysts.
