Smart & Biggar partners join AIPPI members in Mexico for World Congress

Smart & Biggar partners Steven Garland and Matthew Zischka will travel to Cancun, Mexico to participate in the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI) annual World Congress, from September 23-26, 2018.

Both active members of AIPPI, Matthew also serves on the Executive Council for AIPPI Canada, while Steven is Past President of the Canadian Group, Chairman of the Q199 Attorney-Client Privilege Committee and Member of the Programme Committee.

AIPPI’s World Congress attracts over 2,000 members from around the globe. This year’s meeting responds to the increasing pace of international developments in intellectual property. The programme includes Study Questions, Panel Sessions and Plenaries on a range of topics from artificial intelligence to innovation in agriculture patents, to standard essential patents and alternatives for enforcement, and registrability of 3D trademarks among others.

Recent meeting venues include Sydney, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and Seoul.

The AIPPI is the world’s leading International Organization dedicated to the development and improvement of laws for the protection of intellectual property. It is a politically neutral, non-profit organization, based in Switzerland with over 9,000 Members representing more than 125 countries.
