Smart & Biggar is proud to sponsor the 2018 ALAI International Congress in Montreal

Smart & Biggar looks forward to participating as a silver sponsor of the 2018 Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI) International Congress, taking place at the Intercontinental Hotel, in Montreal, Quebec from September 12-14, 2018.

This year’s ALAI congress theme is “Copyright in Action: International Perspectives on Remedies.” Attendees will explore the materiality of copyright principles, from abstract notions to conflict resolution and the protection of a creator’s rights.

Montreal associates Guillaume Lavoie Ste-Marie and Joshua Neubarth will be in attendance to connect with delegates – including practitioners, lawyers, jurists, professors and other members of the Canadian and international cultural industries also interested in questions regarding copyright.

ALAI International was founded in Paris in 1878, an initiative of the Société des Gens de Lettres de France and under the patronage of Victor Hugo. It was at the origins of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, signed on September 9, 1886. ALAI Canada, the national Canadian group of ALAI, was created in 1978.
