Canada’s Intellectual Property Firm

Smart & Biggar delegates travel to Phoenix, Arizona to attend the AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute

Smart & Biggar partners Daphne Lainson, David Schwartz and Matthew Zischka will visit Phoenix, Arizona from January 29 to February 1, to attend the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s (AIPLA) Mid-Winter Institute. In addition, the firm is proud to again sponsor the ‘IP Practice in Japan’ pre-meeting and dinner.

The theme of this year’s conference is “20/20 Vision – How will the IP system Adapt to a Changing World?” Attendees will explore the challenges of emerging technology, new regimes of IP specialization and how the IP system will adapt. They will discuss how technology will challenge and enhance the IP system with tools like big data, AI, blockchain and others that will transform IP practices.

Moving away from traditional discussions of specific areas of IP practice, Mid-Winter 2020 will consider the challenges and opportunities in a look ahead from the perspectives of the bench, government agencies, industry and IP practitioners.
