Canada’s Intellectual Property Firm

Smart & Biggar boasts seven “Life Sciences Stars” in the 2020 edition of LMG Life Sciences

Smart & Biggar is pleased to announce that seven partners have been named “Life Sciences Stars” across Intellectual Property and Regulatory practice areas in the 2020 edition of Legal Media Group (LMG) Life Sciences. Additionally, the firm has been recognized as a “Highly Recommended” firm for Patent Litigation, Patent Prosecution & Strategy and Regulatory, reinforcing the unmatched level of expertise and quality of service we provide across the patent lifecycle to life sciences innovators.

Congratulations to Steven Garland, Sheldon Hamilton, Yoon Kang, Daphne Lainson, Nancy Pei and David Schwartz for their recognition in Intellectual Property and Alice Tseng for her distinction in Regulatory.

Smart & Biggar’s LMG Life Sciences 2020 rankings affirm the firm’s status as an industry-leader with one of the most experienced and talented teams in Canada. LMG describes Smart & Biggar Chair, Daphne Lainson, as having “a strong reputation in the market as a life sciences patent strategist and counselor.” In recognition of her significant work in the area, Daphne was recently named 2020 Patent Strategy Practitioner of the Year in Canada at the LMG Life Sciences Awards on September 23, 2020.

Sheldon Hamilton—who was named the 2020 Patent Litigator of the Year in Canada—with “recognized practitioner” Nancy Pei, impressed LMG with their involvement in one of the Patent Impact Cases of the Year, AstraZeneca Canada v Sandoz Canada, which clarified procedure related to the PM(NOC) regulations. Sheldon and Nancy, along with partner Yoon Kang, each “bolster the firm’s strength in [patent litigation].”

In regulatory, Alice Tseng “stands as one of the market’s most respected practitioners.” Alice was also shortlisted for the Canadian Regulatory Attorney of the Year, an award she won in 2019.
