Canada’s Intellectual Property Firm

7 Smart & Biggar partners named “Life Sciences Stars” by LMG Life Sciences 2019

Smart & Biggar is pleased to announce that seven partners have been named a “Life Sciences Star” across two practice areas: Intellectual Property and Regulatory, in the 2019 edition of LMG Life Sciences.

Congratulations to Gunars Gaikis, Steven Garland, Sheldon Hamilton, Yoon Kang, Nancy Pei and David Schwartz for their recognition in Intellectual Property and Alice Tseng for Regulatory.

In LMG Life Sciences’ analysis of Smart & Biggar, the firm is lauded as a “premier IP firm in Canada with significant expertise in patent litigation and counseling” and acclaimed for being "preeminent in patent prosecution."

In addition to the directory rankings, the publication holds annual awards, which were presented at an award dinner in New York on September 18, 2019. The LMG Life Sciences Awards recognizes the leading attorneys, firms and in-house counsel teams that have played a significant role in the life sciences industry over the past year. Smart & Biggar is honoured to share that Toronto partner, Alice Tseng, was selected as “Canadian Regulatory Attorney of the Year.”

In addition to Alice Tseng’s win, Gunars Gaikis was nominated for “Canadian Patent Litigation Attorney of the Year”, Daphne Lainson was shortlisted for “Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Attorney of the Year” and on the firm level, Smart & Biggar was shortlisted for both “Canadian Patent Contentious Firm of the Year” and “Canadian Patent Non-Contentious Firm of the Year”. We were honoured to receive both these awards in 2018.
